Nothing but a victim of His astounding love.
Knowing the Will Of God - Note to Self
Knowing God’s will isn’t about having access to a magic 8 ball that reveals to us the sovereign will of God. Instead, it involves an intentional and meditative saturation of the mind with his Word. This would allow me to understand the trajectory of his already-spoken commands and renew my mind into one not of this world.
For so long I’ve sought to know God’s sovereign will in so many experiences over the years of my Christian life. But I’m learning now that his sovereign will is exactly that - sovereign. Praise God that I’m becoming more and more hungry to adhere to that will and also his will of command, and seeking ways to do it. And I’m beginning to understand that I need to saturate myself and my thoughts with the Word, with prayer and faith, instead of seeking special access to his plans.
Praise God that the Christian faith is not blind, but one of legitimacy based on the constant evaluation of his Word. I can have confidence in my decisions that I’m following his good and perfect will when I’ve truly acted out of my hunger to do so - meditating on the Word and striving to understand his trajectory as much as my human brain will allow me to.
Thanks, John Piper. I hope this note to self encourages some of you too.
